I Love You, Man

Comedy
3 stars
Funny movie. Paul Rudd (Role Models) has no male friends and needs a best man for his wedding to Rashida Jones. Enter slacker and Jason Segel (How I Met Your Mother) whom he meets while trying to sell Lou Ferrigno’s house. Thankfully, there are only a handful of gross-out jokes and despite Rudd’s character’s awkwardness that can feel painfully overdone at times, I laughed out loud quite a bit during this movie. Surprising cast including Jane Curtin, J.K. Simmons (Juno), Jon Favreau, Jaime Pressly (My Name is Earl), Andy Samberg, the band Rush and the Hulk himself, Lou Ferrigno. Very funny.

Sunshine Cleaning

Chick Flick/Drama
4 stars
This movie was so good on so many levels. Amy Adams (Doubt, Enchanted) and Emily Blunt (Devil Wears Prada) as sisters who live in a nowhere town with no prospects and start a business together cleaning up after crime scenes (a little gross with the left over blood and stuff). There are some laughs but the movie goes deeper into the sisters’ past and what is troubling them. As always, Adams perfectly expresses all her emotions through her eyes. I had trouble categorizing this movie as a chick flick because it is not a happy-feel-good romance type of movie. It is more a movie about trying to get your life together and improving it. Alan Arkin and Steve Zahn also star, as does Jason Spevack as the adorably cute son of Adams. Great movie.

Fired Up

Comedy
3 stars
Cute tongue-in-cheek movie about a couple of high school football players who sign up for cheerleader camp to score chicks. The plot is very similar to Wedding Crashers (only without Crashers’ excruciating weekend at a family’s estate) only with less profanity and nudity. Stars Nicholas D'Agosto and Eric Christian Olsen. I got a few laughs out of it and the characters were likable enough. Probably best to wait for it to come out on video.
